17,970 new cases, 178 fatalities added to Thailand’s Covid-19 record

Thailand on Monday reported 17,970 new Covid-19 cases, raising the kingdom’s total Covid-19 record to 633,284.

The death toll climbed to 5,168 with 178 new fatalities.

The death toll matched the previous daily high of 178, which was recorded on Friday, when the highest new daily caseload of 18,912 was also set.

Greater Bangkok, which includes the capital and the five neighboring provinces of Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, and Nakhon Pathom, accounted for 122 of the 178 deaths. The rest of the newly recorded fatalities come from the 26 remaining provinces.

The Ministry of Public Health said, out of the 17,970 new cases recorded nationwide over the past 24 hours, 17,795 were in the general population and 175 among prison inmates.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries rose to 419,241 after 13,919 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness.
