Thailand formally repeals mask rule

The mandatory mask rule in all public areas has been repealed by the Thai government in a late-night decree issued about 10:00 PM on June 23rd, 2022, The Pattaya News reported.

The order published in the Royal Gazette states that wearing a face mask is now a voluntary practice.

The government, however, still recommends but does not require wearing one in crowded spaces, large groups of people, and in situations with inadequate ventilation.

The statement says people at high risk of COVID-19, like the elderly, those with pre-existing diseases, and those who are at-risk, should always wear masks appropriately.

Meanwhile, private businesses and event organisers have the right to implement mask rule at their establishments and venues.
